Vacuum pumps create suction by moving air and gases. Sometimes, water vapor or other condensable gases can get inside the pump. If these gases turn into liquid, they can mix with the pump’s oil.
This is bad for the pump. It can reduce performance and even cause internal damage. The gas ballast valve helps stop this from happening.
The valve lets a small, controlled amount of air into the pump’s compression chamber. This “ballast” air raises the pressure just enough. It prevents vapors from condensing into liquid during the compression cycle.
