Copper has some special properties that make it perfect for sealing:

Handles High Heat: Copper can withstand much higher temperatures than many other materials. It won’t burn or become brittle from the heat inside your pump.

No Rust or Corrosion: Unlike steel, copper will not rust. This makes it very durable over time.

Creates a Strong Seal: When you tighten the pump parts, the soft copper squashes down. It molds itself perfectly to the metal surfaces. This creates an incredibly tight, metal-to-metal seal that is very difficult for air to penetrate.
