Description
Think of the exhaust silencer as a muffler for your pump. Inside this silencer is a special membrane or diaphragm. This membrane flexes and absorbs the sound energy from the exhausting air.
This process breaks up the sound waves before they leave the pump. The result is a much quieter operation.
When this membrane gets old, it can become brittle or tear. When that happens, the sound waves pass through easily. Your pump suddenly becomes much louder.
