Inside your Edwards E2M1 or E2M1.5 vacuum pump, the motor spins to create suction. But the motor and the pump rotor are not directly connected. They need a flexible link between them. That is what the drive member does .

This small but important part fits between the motor shaft and the pump rotor. It transfers the spinning motion from the motor to the pump. At the same time, it allows for a little bit of misalignment. This helps protect both the motor and the pump from stress .
