This gasket is made from Viton. Viton is a special, high-quality synthetic rubber. It is excellent at resisting oils, chemicals, and heat. Inside a running vacuum pump, it gets hot and is constantly exposed to oil. A regular rubber gasket might crack or swell and fail. A Viton gasket stays strong and flexible much longer. This means better protection for your pump and less frequent replacements.
