The coupling boss is a metal part that sits right at the center of that coupling assembly . Think of it as the hub or the anchor. On one side, it attaches to the motor shaft. On the other side, it connects to the pump shaft. Sometimes it is also called a “pump shaft coupling” .
Its job is simple but vital. It transfers spinning power from the motor to the pump’s internal rotor. If the coupling boss fails, the motor spins but the pump does nothing.
