The Spring Ballast EM (Part #A27102010) is a direct replacement gas ballast return spring for Edwards E1/E2M series vacuum pumps . It is a small metal spring that sits inside the gas ballast valve assembly. Its job is to push the valve back to the closed position after you turn off the gas ballast. If your gas ballast valve feels loose, sticks open, or does not close properly, this spring may be worn or broken. Replace it to keep your gas ballast working correctly and your pump oil clean.

The Spring Ballast EM is part of the gas ballast valve assembly. It is a small metal spring that helps control the valve. Here is how it works:
When you turn the gas ballast knob to the OPEN position, you compress this spring.
The valve opens. Air flows into the pump.
When you turn the knob back to CLOSED, the spring expands. It pushes the valve back to the closed position.
Without a good spring, the valve may not close properly. Air could leak into your pump when you do not want it to. That would hurt your vacuum performance.
