This valve is specially designed for high vacuum operation. In a two-stage rotary vane pump, the exhaust valve controls the release of gas from the low vacuum stage to the atmosphere . It opens to let gas out and closes quickly to stop gas from flowing back in.

To understand why this valve matters, let us look at how your E1/E2M pump works. These pumps have two stages :

1. The high vacuum stage – This stage does the first pull. It takes gas from your vacuum chamber.

2. The low vacuum stage – The gas from the high vacuum stage goes into this stage. Then it is pushed out through the exhaust valve.

The exhaust valve sits at the end of the low vacuum stage. It is the last door the gas goes through before leaving the pump .

If that door does not close properly, air leaks back in. That ruins your vacuum.
