The Ballast Valve (Part #A25906600) is a replacement gas ballast valve for Edwards vacuum pumps . This valve lets a small amount of air into your pump on purpose. That simple action stops water vapor from condensing inside your pump oil .

The ballast valve controls the air flow. Most Edwards pumps have three settings :
Position ‘0’ – Valve closed. Use for normal dry gases to get the best vacuum.
Position ‘I’ – Low flow. Use for pumping small amounts of water vapor.
Position ‘II’ – High flow. Use for pumping high concentrations of condensable vapors.
When you turn the knob, this valve opens. Air rushes into the low vacuum stage of your pump . The air mixes with the vapor. The vapor stays as a gas and gets pushed out the exhaust.
