This is a Edwards thermal snap switch for diffusion pumps. It is a safety device that monitors pump temperature. If the pump gets too hot, the switch opens and turns off the heater. This prevents damage to the pump. It automatically resets when the pump cools down

      This thermal snap switch is used on Edwards diffusion pumps . These pumps are also called Diffstak pumps. They are used in high vacuum systems.

      Most diffusion pumps have two thermal snap switches . One monitors the cooling coils. The other monitors the pump base or boiler.
