This is the Inlet Filter for the Rietschle VTN 10 dry-running rotary vane vacuum pump. Part number 317984 is a single replacement filter designed to clean the air before it enters the pump .

Dry-running pumps, like your VTN 10, do not use oil to seal or cool the pump chamber. Instead, they rely on very tight clearances between the carbon vanes and the cylinder wall.

If dust or debris gets inside:

• It accelerates wear: Particles act like sandpaper, wearing down the vanes and the cylinder lining.

• It causes vacuum loss: Scratched or worn internal surfaces cannot seal properly, leading to a drop in vacuum strength.

• It leads to pump failure: Excessive contamination can cause the pump to seize up completely.

The VTN 10 uses a built-in “fine micro filter” to clean the incoming air . This filter is the first line of defense for your pump.
