This is a replacement Dowty bonded seal for Edwards E1/E2M series rotary vane vacuum pumps. It cross-references to Edwards OEM number X-WSX0004. This seal is a 1-1/4″ BSP size and is made of Buna-N (Nitrile) rubber bonded to a metal outer ring. It is used on oil drain and fill plugs to prevent leaks.

A Dowty seal is a special type of sealing washer. It combines two materials in one part.
A metal outer ring: This gives the seal strength. It stops the washer from crushing or deforming when you tighten the plug.
A rubber inner seal: This is bonded to the metal ring. The rubber squeezes against the threads and the mating surface. It creates a leak-tight seal .
Think of it like a washer and an O-ring combined into one part. It is much more reliable than a plain copper or aluminum washer.
