A coalescing filter is a special type of filter designed to remove tiny oil particles from air. A coalescing element works by causing tiny oil or liquid particles suspended in the air to come together and form larger droplets, which are then collected and drained out of the system .

Here is how it works in simple terms :

1. Capture: The filter media captures small oil droplets and aerosols as the compressed air passes through it.

2. Coalescence: Once captured, the oil droplets accumulate on the filter media and begin to coalesce, or combine, with each other, forming larger droplets.

3. Drainage: The larger oil droplets, now separated from the air stream, are drained out of the filter housing through a drain valve or other drainage mechanism. This prevents the re-entrainment of oil back into the air stream.

This process keeps oil from spraying out of your pump’s exhaust. After passing through the separator, the residual oil content in the exhaust air is just 2-4 milligrams per cubic meter
