eflon is a brand name for PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). It is a special plastic, not a rubber.
Here is why Teflon is special:
Chemical resistance: Teflon is chemically inert. Almost nothing reacts with it. Acids, bases, solvents, fuels – Teflon handles them all.
Low friction: Teflon is very slippery. It creates less drag on the spinning shaft than rubber seals do.
Wide temperature range: Teflon works from very cold to very hot (up to about 500°F / 260°C)
