The Spring (Part #00307046) is a direct replacement for Edwards E1M18 and E2M18 vacuum pumps . This small metal spring provides tension for the pump vanes (also called blades) . The vanes are the parts that actually create the vacuum. Without good springs, the vanes cannot work properly. If you are rebuilding your pump, this spring should be replaced as part of a major overhaul or blade kit service .

This spring is used to provide tension for the pump vanes (blades) inside the pump . The vanes are the parts that slide in and out as the rotor spins. They create the vacuum by trapping and moving gas.
The spring pushes the vane against the pump wall. This creates a tight seal. Without that seal, the pump cannot pull a good vacuum.
If a spring loses its tension or breaks, the vane it controls will not work correctly. That can cause your pump to lose vacuum or make strange noises
