This is an Angular Contact Bearing, model LD17/402RS, that replaces Part #A20408001 . This is the standard front angular contact bearing used in all major rebuild kits for the popular Edwards XDS and nXDS dry scroll pump series

A standard bearing handles mainly radial loads (the weight of a spinning shaft). An angular contact bearing is a more advanced and component. It is specifically designed to handle both radial loads AND high axial (thrust) loads (forces pushing along the shaft) at the same time .
In dry pumps, the rotors spin at very high speeds (often 3600 rpm) and are held in alignment . These bearings are critical for handling those extreme forces.
