This is a Edwards replacement interstage plate for the E2M40 MK2 rotary vane pump. The interstage plate separates the high vacuum and low vacuum stages inside the pump. If you are rebuilding your E2M40 pump, this is the correct OEM replacement part.

The interstage plate is the part that sits between the two stages . It separates the high vacuum section from the low vacuum section . It also has internal passages that allow gas to flow from the first stage to the second stage.
If the interstage plate is worn or damaged, the two stages can leak into each other. This will cause:
Poor ultimate vacuum
Slower pump-down times
Higher oil consumption
Pump overheating
