This is the Viton Ring Gasket (Part #300200) .

 It sits between two parts of your pump. Its only job is to create a tight, reliable seal that prevents air from leaking in and oil or gas from leaking out.

Not all rubber gaskets are the same. This gasket is made from Viton. Viton is a special type of rubber called a fluoroelastomer. It is not the cheap, standard black rubber you find at the hardware store.
