This is a Edwards replacement Co-Seal for ISO160 flanges. The “VIT” means it has a Viton (FKM) rubber seal. The “RED” is likely a color marking. This Co-Seal eliminates crevices and trapped gas volumes. It is designed for high vacuum down to 10⁻⁸ Torr.

A Co-Seal is a special type of vacuum seal. It is different from a regular centering ring and O-ring. The Co-Seal has a polymer support ring. The rubber seal is attached to it. The whole thing is one piece .
The Co-Seal has a very clever design. When you install it, the inner face of the seal is directly exposed to the vacuum system. There is nothing between the rubber and the gas .
This is very important. Regular O-rings can have tiny gaps or trapped volumes. These trapped volumes can hold gas. That gas can slowly release into your vacuum system. This causes “gas bursts” and slows down your pump-down time .
The Co-Seal eliminates these problems completely.
